Book of Remembrance

A book of remembrance is held in St Luke's Chapel on the 4th floor of the Lister Hospital.  It contains short messages from parents and loved ones on their baby's special day. The book is brought to our Memorial Service each year.

The book is in the care of the chaplains and they try to turn the page to the correct day each morning although this is not always possible. If you wish to visit please do knock on the Chaplains' Office door and someone will turn the book to the relevant page for you to see your entry.

If you would like your baby's name added to the book please read the notes and then complete the form below. If you have any questions please do get in touch by emailing Cathy Beach.

Notes for completing the form

The book is updated by hand by a calligrapher. This is usually done once a year in time for our Annual Memorial Service in October. It may therefore be some months before your entry is added so please do be patient.

The service is free of charge but we do appreciate a donation if you are able to as this covers our calligraphers fee. If you are able to make a donation please do so here: DONATE

If your baby does not have a name please think about how you would like them to be acknowledged. You could choose a name, or you could use your surname e.g. Baby Smith.

It is up to you which date you use to remember your baby. Many people do chose the day baby was born but you could chose a due date, funeral date or another significant date. There is no limitation on the dates - some people wait many years before adding their baby's details.

Words of remembrance: Please try to keep these to a maximum of 30 characters, for example "Loved Always" or "Remembered by the Smith Family". Unfortunately there is very limited space in the book.

Images: If you opt to receive an image of the book entry we will send you a photograph of the entry for your baby by email. We will try to make the image as clear as possible.

We will not use your details from this form for any other reason than for adminstering and maintaining the Memorial Book. The details of your baby's name, date and your message will be shared with our calligrapher but she will not keep a record of these after the book has been updated. If you wish to be kept in touch with North Herts Sands please complete the separate contact form.

Please be aware that we may take photographs of the Memorial Book pages for example in case of damage or for conservation and repair purposes. These images may include your baby's details.
